Jungwon has a short fuse. A very, very short, explosive fuse. It's a lot of impotent rage for the most part though. Yelling, hitting inanimate objects, shoving things over that won't actually hurt anyone. Things that help him relieve frustration without actually doing any harm to other people. In fact, he's more likely to hurt himself in a fit of rage than he is to hurt someone else. Very much the type of person to kick a trashcan over out of anger, and then hop up in down on one foot spitting out curses left and right after he stubs his toe like a big old idiot.
Speaking of, in some ways he's kind of a big old idiot. For the most part, he's very intelligent. He's very sharp, and very observant. He's fantastic at putting the pieces of a puzzle together even with many of the pieces missing, and does his job well. He's got an eye for detail, and he picks up well on subtle cues in voices, and changes in body language. He rose through the ranks at an astronomical pace, barely spending a year as a police officer before he was offered a position as a detective. For the most part he's well respected by his colleagues, for being skilled at his job, and incredibly professional. He works well with his coworkers, but also with victims, witnesses, and suspects alike. He knows how to talk to people given the particular situation, and is good at putting on the right act for the right moment.
However... he's a mess in his personal life. His apartment looks like a bachelor's disaster zone (because that is exactly what it is). The remanents of fast food, takeout and instant dinners litter every surface. Dirty clothing is strewn everywhere. Nothing looks remotely washed, and things only ever GET washed if he's totally out of something (dishes, clothing...), and god knows none of the surfaces ever get cleaned. He lives in his own filth. It's disgusting.
He also doesn't really have much in the way of friends outside of work. He will go out to eat and drink with his coworkers, but very rarely spends time with people otherwise. He doesn't really meet new people, doesn't have friends from his neighborhood, or from when he went to university. He spends most of his free time alone. And god help him, whenever someone has set him up on a date he has managed to blow each and every single one of them within the first half hour. He is the complete opposite of charming with women. He's awkward, uncomfortable, and has a bad tendency to talk about work. Oddly enough, most women don't want to hear about gruesome murders over dinner. Clearly, he just hasn't met the right girl yet.
He also eats a metric ton, and wolfs down food like he's been starved for several days straight, and that's not usually an attractive quality to most people.
Jungwon is good at presenting himself in a calm, friendly fashion at first glance. He's professional and courteous with his coworkers as well. It takes a special kind of person to dig out older parts of his personality that he's tried to bury, and get him to act like a dick. Truth be told, Jungwon's patience is significantly less than he tries to let people know. Only a few people actually know how shitty his temper is (his partner, for one, who treats Jungwon like a son, and finds the pointless anger, and ranting to be funnier than it is an issue), a few more might be aware of what a dick he can be if he lets his filter slip.
He usually keeps a lid on this thoughts, but with people he's become comfortable with (or people that have him cornered), he doesn't hold back. He'll say whatever shitty thing pops into his head first, usually to get it all out of his system so he can go back to holding everything in again the next day. Sometimes, if he's not actually friends with the person, as a way to purposely piss them off. He is the patron saint of forced friendly smiles during regular working hours though.
His partner (a man in his 60s), is his closest friend. It's a little sad to think about, but Jungwon gets along with him well, and likes his personality. The two balance each other out well too. His partner is very relaxed, and genuinely lets a lot of things roll off of him, while Jungwon acts like he is, but is a lot more tightly wound than he lets on. His partner can keep him in check when Jungwon starts going overboard with things, and most importantly he knows how to reel the kid back when Jungwon tosses himself too obsessively into his work.
And he can get very, very obsessive. Jungwon is nothing if not mounds of determination. It bothers him greatly to not see cases through to the finish, and often times has to be ordered to let things go if a lead goes cold. It's one of his biggest faults as a detective, actually, his inability to drop things and move on when nothing more can be done. Jungwon wants to tackle something from every angle, exhaust every option, and even then he has trouble accepting that his best work couldn't produce the results he wanted. He will work himself to the point of passing out during tougher cases.
The funny thing about Jungwon is that he doesn't necessarily have this hard fast belief in the law, or the inherent goodness of the system, he doesn't, he just carries a weird sense of guilt for his own actions as a kid, and his father's actions, that he feels he needs to make up for. He hides it well under a friendly attitude, occasional goofy behavior, and even more occasionally slightly more honest snark, but the guy's got some deeply buried guilt issues.
